Define
We define the question, proceedings, deadlines and possible scope.
Before assessing, we define what needs clarification. We then explain how each finding was obtained and what it supports.
We define the question, proceedings, deadlines and possible scope.

Select each layer to discover what a psychological report should explain.
We identify what comes from an interview, document, observation or test. An interpretation should not be presented as an observed fact.
The choice of methods must be explainable. We examine each instrument’s purpose, its administration and conditions affecting interpretation.
We compare conclusions with findings, alternative explanations and missing information. Sometimes the appropriate conclusion is that a question cannot be answered.

A request such as “I need a report” is the starting point. We establish whether the issue concerns injury, abilities, family context, functioning at a past date or review of another opinion. Recipients, records, stages and fees are agreed.
Age, language, education, abilities and assessment conditions inform the selection of interviews and tests. We explain the expert purpose, how information will be used and the confidentiality limits of the instruction.
Findings are compared with records and the timeline. We consider information supporting an explanation as well as information challenging it. Discrepancies are described openly.
The report distinguishes data, interpretation and the answer to the question. It identifies limitations and avoids extending findings beyond the people, dates and abilities actually assessed.
Where included in the instruction, we prepare an explanation of methods and findings, review outstanding questions and explain the report in court. Witness accounts are not rehearsed or shaped.
Tell us the type of matter, its stage and any deadline. We start by defining how we can help.
